The titanyl oxalate complex is obtained by adding a concentrated oxalic acid solution with agitation to an aqueous solution of titanium tetrachlorlde (0.2 to 0.3 g titanlum/ml). On adding an aqueous solutlon of the divalent salt, white precipitates with the following composition were obtained: BaTi0(C/sub 2/0/ sub 4/)/sub 2/ - 4H/sub 2/0, SrTi0(C/sub 2/0/sub 4/)/sub 2/ - 5.5H/sub 2/0. PbTi 0(C/sub 2/0/sub 4/)/sub 3/ 4Hi/sub 2/, and CaTi0(C/sub 2/0/sub 4/)/sub 2/ -5H/sub 2/0. Some acetone was added to the aqueous titanium chloride to obtain the calcium salt. Thermogravlmetrlc analyses of this salt showed that the water of crystallization was given off first at 150 to 250 ts C, then the oxalate groups decomposed wlth the evolution of C0/sub 2/ at 320 to 360 ts C, and finally the metatitanate was formed at about 800 ts C. The metatitanates have a perov skite structure. The specific gravities of the metatitanates of calcium, barium, strontium, and lead are Listed. (TTT)
