A plug and socket type electrical connector was developed that has, on one portion, at least one rigid contact member, and on the other portion, for each rigid contact member, a cooperating resilient contact member. One contact member encircles the other when the portions are fully engaged and makes contact with it at spaced points at which the resilient contact is stressed whenthe members are in contact, and in which both portions have surfaces spaced from the contact members and such that, when the portions move together to engage the contact members, the surfaces cooperate to align those members prior to their engagement.
