Particle Depolarization in Acceleration in a Synchrocyclotron; DEPOLYARIZATSIYA CHASTITS PRI USKORENII V SINKHROTSIKLOTRONE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4101988
The resonance depolarization of protons and deuterons accelerating in the synchrocyclotron of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems was investigated. The main effect in proton acceleration is due to the second and the third harmonics of the median plane distortion. The resonance orbit radii are 95 and 260 cm, respectively. It was shown that polarization is conserved. In the calculation of the depolarization, the effect of phase oscillations and the fringing magnetic field in extraction were taken into account. In deuteron acceleration the vertical oscillations are responsible for the resonance. The depolarization amounts to 30%, and the only way to conserve polarization is to decrease the amplitude of free vertical oscillations. (auth)
