A method of bonding a ferrous metal cladding to a ferrous cermet body is described. The method comprises electrolytic deposition of a nickel coating directly on the cermet, deposition of copper or copper base alloy as braze metal over the nickel, insertion of the compositely coated body into a metal sheath, hot swaging the assembly of the body and sheath at a temperature below the fusion of the braze metal, and then heat treatment of the assembly to fuse the braze metal at the interface of the body and sheath.
