New CH star in the globular cluster omega Centauri

Journal Article · · Astrophys. J., Lett., v. 202, no. 1, pp. L47-L49

A photograph of $omega$ Centauri made with a transmission-grating slitless spectrograph has revealed a new CH star near the center of this globular cluster. The star's radial velocity is found to be consistent with cluster membership, and a visual absolute magnitude M/subv/=-1.8 is derived. The total number of carbon stars now known in globular clusters is three, all of which are in $omega$ Cen. (AIP)
