Heterogeneous losses in gasdynamic lasers

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.), v. 5, no. 8, pp. 948-952

A theoretical analysis is made of the main forms of vibrational energy losses in heterogeneous media used in gasdynamic lasers. Calculations show that the most important losses in a CO$sub 2$ gasdynamic laser are optical (absorption of light by particles); these losses increase with the gas pressure in the resonator and with the weight concentration of the particles. The most important losses in a CO gasdynamic laser are those associated with the deactivation of the excited molecules on the surfaces of condensated particles. (AIP)
