Dy$sup 155$ AND Dy$sup 157$ DECAY SCHEMES

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
The disintegration schemes of Dy/sup 157/ and Dy/sup 157/ were s tudied. In addition to obtaining conversion-electron and gamma -ray spectra, e - gamma coincidence measurements were made. The Dy/sup 157/ results were conclusive and support the decay scheme proposed by Michelich, Harmatz, and Handley on the basis of differences and sums of accurately determined transition energies. The level in Tb/sup 157/ at 327-kev is shown to be 5/2-. The relative intensities of the three E1 gamma -rays proceeding from this level to the three members of a ground rotational band based on a spin of 3/2+ were found to agree with the corresponding branching ratios found for the analogous case in Tb/sup 159/ involving a 5/2 - 364-kev level and a ground rotational band again with a 3/2+ base state. In both instances the experimental intensities disagreed with the theoretical branching ratios. The Dy/sup 155/ coincidence results were inconclusive due chiefly to the presence of interfering activities. However, the Dy/sup 155/ data do corroborate some features of a disintegration scheme proposed by Toth and Rasmussen for this isotope ard based on accurately measured transition energies. Also a new level in Tb/sup 155/ at approximately 880 kev was established in the course of this investigation. (auth)
