Metabolism and Toxicology of Plutonium-239--Evaluation of the Internal Conta#ination of Persons Professionally Exposed; METABOLISME ET TOXICOLOGIE DU PLUTONIUM 239--EVALUATION DE LA CONTAMINATION INTERNE DES PERSONNES PROFESSIONNELLEMENT EXPOSEES

After reviewing the main metabolic and toxicological properties of plutonium 239 as well as the professional norms now in force, the report considers the difficult problem of the eva1uation of the internal contamination of persons professionally exposed. The evaluation is dependent on the practical organization of the supervision involved: systematic supervision by periodic analysis of urinary Pu and special supervision in the case of incidents by an examination adapted to each case. A simple interpretation of the systematic analyses, as well as the evaluation methods used in the main cases of accidental contamination are outlined. (auth)
