Early work on thermocouples to measure graphite temperature of 800 deg C and higher. Project DRAGON

A chromel vs. alumel thermocouple sheathed with a titanium stabilized 18/8 austenitic stainless steel has been selected to measure graphite temperatures up to 1100 deg C in the 7-element rig at C. A. Parsons Ltd., Newcastle. This report describes the basis of selection, test results and final calibration. Some miscellaneous work on high temperature thermocouples is also included. (auth)
