Theoretical investigation of the vibrational relaxation of CO$sub 2$ in mixtures containing carbon monoxide

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.), v. 5, no. 7, pp. 762-764

A theoretical analysis is made of the vibrational relaxation in a nonequilibrium stream in a gasdynamic laser utilizing CO+N$sub 2$+CO$sub 2$+H$sub 2$O mixtures. The dependence of the population inversion for the 00$sup 0$1-- 10$sup 0$0 transition in the CO$sub 2$ molecule on the concentration of CO is obtained. It is shown that under certain conditions it should be possible to construct a gasdynamic laser utilizing CO$sub 2$ transitions in nitrogen-free mixtures. (AIP)
