INFLUENCES OF IRRADIATION ON FUEL ELEMENT CLADDING

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4091781
The factors involved in estimating the longevity of alloy components in a neutron radiation environment are discussed. Results are reported of studies contacted on the effects of neutron irradiation on Zircaloy-2, austenitic stainless steels (Types 304, 347, and 348), and Ni-base alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy X, and Inconel 702). General considerations in irradiation effects on mechanical properties of alloys are discussed, particularly defects and dislocations. Annealing and accumulation of damage are also considered.
