Title: Reactor vessel seal service fixture

Abstract

An apparatus for the preparation of exposed sealing surfaces along the open rim of a nuclear reactor vessel comprised of a motorized mechanism for traveling along the rim and simultaneously brushing the exposed surfaces is described.

  • This patent describes a HP/LP seal arrangement for an elongated guide tube and an elongated thimble disposed therein. The guide tube and thimble extending outwardly from the core of a nuclear reactor to a seal table where the guide tube is welded to the seal table to provide a high pressure seal relative thereto. It comprises: a tubular seal fitting disposed in alignment with the guide tube with the thimble extending therethrough on the low pressure side of the seal table; first high pressure sealing means coupling one end of the fitting to an end of the guide tube tomore » prevent leakage from within the guide tube; inwardly facing thread means disposed adjacent the other and outer end of the seal fitting; a nut having an opening through which the thimble extends and further having outwardly facing threading in mating engagement with the fitting thread means; the fitting having a seal seat spaced longitudinally inwardly from the thread means and facing the fitting outer end and further disposed annularly about the inner surface of the fitting; deformable ring seal means; second releasable high pressure sealing means coupling the thimble to the outer end portion of the guide tube.« less

  • In a nuclear reactor vessel installation where there is an annular cavity between a reactor vessel having a flange extending radially therefrom and a reactor shield structure, a reactor vessel cavity seal plate, said seal plate is described comprising: (a) an annular plate formed from a plurality of unattached segments positioned adjacent each other, said annular plate having a plurality of ports spaced around its circumference; (b) an inner spacer ring attached to the inner diameter of said annular plate and resting freely upon the reactor vessel flange; (c) an outer spacer ring attached adjacent the outer diameter of saidmore » annular plate and resting upon the reactor shield structure; (d) an annular seal formed from a plurality of sections welded together such that said annular seal rests upon said annular plate and extends beyond the inner and outer diameter of said annular plate; (e) an inner seal ring attached to the inner diameter of said annular seal and sealingly attached to the reaction vessel flange; (f) an outer seal ring attached to the outer diameter of said annular seal and sealingly attached to the reactor shield structure; and (g) means for removably covering and sealing the ports in said annular plate.« less
