PREPARATION OF DOUBLE SALTS OF NIOBIUM AND TANTALUM CHLORIDES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4090299
Double salts of niobium and tantalum chlorides with halides of alkaline and alkaline-earth metals are prepared by passing the gaseous pentachloride (TaCl/ sub 5/ or NbCl/sub 5/) over the granulated halide (KCl or KF) in a vertical column at a temperature above the melting point of the double salt which is thus recovered at the bottom of the column. If the lower-valency salts (trivalent niobium or tetravalent tantalum) are to be obtained, the reaction is carried out in a hydrogen atmosphere. (EURATOM)
