Isotopic Analysis Using Optical Spectroscopy; ANALYSE ISOTOPIQUE PAR SPECTROSCOPIE OPTIQUE

The isotopic displacement in the atomic lines of certain elements (H, He, Li, Ne, Sr, Hg, Pb, U, Pu) is used for dosing these elements isotopically. The use of the FabryPerot photo-electric interference spectrometer is shown to be particularly adapted for this sort of problem: in each case the essential results obtained with this apparatus, and the results previously obtained with a conventional apparatus (grating, photographic plate) are given. These results together give an idea of the possibilities of optical spectroscopy: in the best case, the precision which may be expected is of the order of 1 to 2 per cent for isotopes whose concentration is ahout l per cent.
