DEGRADATION OF DILUENTS USED WITH TBP IN SOLVENT EXTRACTION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4088336
The degradation of odorless kerosene and of a range of alternative diluents, in the presence of 20% TBP, by mixtures of nitric and nitrous acids at 60 to 70 deg C was investigated. It was established that the relative extent of degradation can be conveniently and reproducibly measured by a retention test using Hf/sup 181/ as tracer. Alternatives to kerosene and fractions isolated from kerosene show greater resistance than kerosene itself to nitric acid. The purification of degraded solvent was studied. (auth)
