A COMPARISON OF THE INFLUENCE OF SOFT AND HARD X-RAYS ON THE MANIFESTATION OF POLYHEDRAL DISEASE IN THE SILKWORM (in Ukrainian)

Journal Article · · Dopovidi Akad. Nauk Ukr. R.S.R.
OSTI ID:4088116
A comparative study was undertaken of the influence of soft and hard x rays (dosage 5000 r) on the activation of the latent nuclear polyhedral virus in the silkworm (Bombyx mori L., breeds US-I and B-II). The incidence of induced polyhedrosis depends on the kind of irradiation, as well as on the hereditary properties and stage of development. In caterpillars, soft x rays induced polyhedrosis approxi-mately twice as frequently as hard rays. Irradiation of pupae caused no activation of the latent virus. (auth)
