COORDINATING SOLVENTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4086673

The self-ionization and coordination models of organic solvent-inorganic solute interactions are compared for FeCl/sub 3/ in POCl/sub 3/ and PO(OEt)/sub 3/ . The coordination model is shown to be the best one for describing nonaqueous solvent chemistry, and general concepts of this model are considered. Methods for establishing coordination and determining the solution species are discussed. The energetics of solvent-solute interactions are described, and solute behavior in a series of typical coordinating solvents are discussed. Generalization of the results are considered. (D.L.C.)
