RESEARCH IN ACTIVATION ANALYSIS. Final Report, April 23, 1962-July 31, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4086578
Studies in the areas of rapid radiochemical separations of radioisotopes with short half lives and the production by neutron irradiation of short lived metastable isomeric states are described. The use of the isomers and the radiochemical process in activation analysis procedures are evaluated. Methods were developed and are described for the determination of Al, Ti, V, Nb, and Mo in ore and polyethylene samples. Metastable isomeric states of Ba/sup 137m/, Cd/ sup 11m/, Se/sup 77m/, Sr/sup 87m/, Pb/sup 204m/, W/sup 185m/, Os/sup 190m/, Y/ sup 89m/, and Hg/sup 197m/ were evaluated as sensitive analytical indicators. A BETA - gamma anticoincidence system was designed to permit the detection of gamma rays emitted in metastable isomer transitions with more favorable signal-to- noise ratios (P.C.H.)
