IN-REACTOR MONITORING OF THE ZIRCALOY-2 PRTR PRESSURE TUBES

A surveillance program was initiated to determine the actual operating performance of the Zircaloy-2 PRTR pressure tubes. The program included in- reactor inspection and pre- and post-irradiation destructive testing, and the equipment for the in-reactor inspections is described. The results of 2 1/2 years' evalutation of pressure tube performance are summarized. Fretting/wear corrosion marks were found, but they had no effect on tube strength. In general, the Zircaloy-2 pressure tubes gave acceptable performance. (D.L.C.)
