NEUROVEGETATIVE CHANGES IN THE REACTIONS OF PERIPHERAL VESSELS AFTER X-RAY IRRADIATION (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Acta Physiol. Polon.
OSTI ID:4086077
Results are summarized from an investigation of the effects of 700 r x radiation on the peripheral blood vessels in dogs. Changes in vascular resistance that might be due to lesions of either the whole or a part of the autonomic nervous system or to the response of vascular muscles were investigated by the use of blocking drugs. It was concluded that changes in vascular resistance in acute radiation sickness are due to a diminution in tone of the sympathetic nervous system with simultaneous increase in that of the parasympathetic system. The ability of the vascular muscles to react to neurohormones appeared to be preserved. (C.H.)
