A method is described for producing a casting in a magnesium-base alloy containlng 0.1 to 1.0 wt% Zr. The alloy is puddled at up to 700 deg C in the presence of a three-phase zirconium-zinc alloy that is capable of introducing zirconium into the magnesium. (R.E.U.)
