Preparation and some magnetic properties of amorphous Gd/sub x/Fe/sub 1-x/ alloy thin films

Amorphous Gd/subx/Fe/sub1-x/ (0< or =x< or =0.35) thin films were prepared by rf cosputtering using the iron target covered partially with small gadolinium pieces. The composition dependences of the saturation magnetization, M-H loops, and domain structures were studied. The coercive force was obtained as a function of the composition and temperature. Such magnetic properties of GdFe sputtered films were very similar those of amorphous GdCo films. (AIP)
