IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO A PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF GRAFTED VINYL POLYMERS

A simple method is given for increasing the grafting values of vinyl polymers (especially polyvinyl chloride) which undergo radioinduced graft copolymerization. This method consists of subjecting the grafted polymer to further grafting operations, since the grafted polymer is still capable of absorbing a fresh quantity of vinyl monomer, although a longer time of contact is required. For example, a polymer of vinyl chloride grafted in a first operation to a grafting value of 33% with acrylonitrile can, by successive operations, reach a value of 200% and higher. (D.L.C.)
