THE BERYLLIUM BORIDE BeB$sub 12$ WITH $beta$-BORON STRUCTURE (in German)

Journal Article · · Z. anorg. u. allgem. Chem.
The boride BeB/sub 12/ is formed by heating rhombohedral gamma boron with 4 to 12% beryllium. The powder diagram of the product corresponds to the diagram of tetragonal beta boron, using stoichiometric quantities of boron and beryllium. Excessive gamma boron remains unchanged; a moderate excess of beryllium may be extracted by acids. The structure of BeB/sub 12/ may be described by the same arrangement of B/sub 12/-icosahedrons as in tetragonal boron with the beryllium atoms occupying half of the holes between the icosahedrons.
