The flotation method was used for investigating the effect of RbCl impurities on the density of KCl crystals. It was found that this method can be applied to investigate the distribution of an impurity between the molten salt and its crystal phase. In KCl the distribution coefficient for RbCl depends on the rubidium concentration and approximates to alpha = 1 for small concentrations of RbCl. The density of KCl is a linear function of the RbCl concentration. The flotation method was used for the determination of Rb in KCl in the concentration range 5.0 to 0.001 at.%. (auth)
