CALCULATION OF A FAST NEUTRON CHOPPER SYSTEM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4082952

From the equations of motion of the neutron, the charaeteristics of neutron transmission through rotating slits are calculated. These characteristics include the form of the transmission probability curve, the width of this curve, and the maximum height. By the use of dimensionless coefficients in formulas and graphs, these factors can be used directly for any chopper design. Attention is also given to the influence of collimators and of beam divengency. The way in which they influence the transmitted spectrum is indicated. Limits for the dnopper parameters are determined in order to satisfy the resolution requirements, and a choice is made according to the existing conditions at the reactor aite. (auth)
