EFFECT OF TEMPERING ON STEEL STRUCTURE AFTER ELECTRON BEAM HEATING (in Ukrainian)

On irradiating IIIX 15 steel with electrons hardening occurred in the surface layer. Closer to the surface the layer consists of martensite and residual austenite. At a certain depth excess carbides were observed in addition to the structural components. On heating up to 100-200 deg C martensite disintegration occurred only in the layer containing excess carbides; on heating up to 300--500 deg C -it went on throughout the entire irradiated layer. Disintegration of the residual austenite was observed on attaining 500 deg C, the disintegration products having a higher hardness than the residual austenite. Tempering at 600--700 deg C led to the formation in the irradiated layer of a disperse ferrito-carbide mixture of the troostite type. Thus, transformations in irradiated steel during tempering are shifted by 100--200 deg C toward the higher temperatures as compared with the same steel hardened in the conventional way. (auth)
