DISTRICT GAMMA RADIATION SURVEY AROUND A.E.R.E. HARWELL. Results for 1958 and 1959

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4081093
The results of a gamma radiation survey carried out in the district surrounding the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, during 1958 and 1959 are described. Dose-rate measurements were made at a large number of fixed points within this area using portable ratemeters. Over this period no variation in dose rate due to deposition of radioactivity originating in the Atomic Energy Research Establishment could be detected; the variations in gamma dose rate observed were due to the deposition of fission products from nuclear test explosions and maximum levels were reached in May and June 1959. Since that period the dose rate has declined due to the reduced rate of deposition of fall- out and radioactive decay of fall-out already on the ground. (auth)
