DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMICAL ETCHING PROCEDURE FOR ZIRCALOY. Summary Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4079501

The bright etching; procedure originally used for Zircaloyclad fuel tubes for the du Pont Power Reactor Program was revised. Commercial grades of nitric and hydrofluoric acids, replenished etch baths, and all-water rinses may now be used to prepare the Zircaloy cladding for exposure to corrosion by high- temperature water or steam. Wetting agents do not noticeably affect etching rates in the normal range of temperatures encountered with the power tube etching solution. (auth)
