Temperature distribution in sunspot umbrae

The temperature distribution in the umbrae of ''small'' (umbral area of 20x10$sup -6$ solar hemispheres) and ''average'' (umbral area of 50x10$sup -6$ solar hemispheres) spots was calculated on the basis of observations of monochromatic scans across sunspots carried out by using the velocity spectrophotometer of the Ural University Astronomical Observatory. The temperature in such sunspots is significantly lower than the values given in the literature. (AIP)
