RESULTS OF A TEST PROGRAM FOR FILAMENT-WOUND CYLINDERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4079268
Presented are data accumulated from a test program in which thin-walled, filament-wound cylinders, cured at room temperature, were tested to destruction in axial tension, axial compression, and bending, with emphasis on tension and compression, Several room-temperaturecuring resin systems were used; rovings included HTS 994 and hollow glass filaments. Wrap patterns included a 42degree helix, a 20-degree helix plus circumferentials, and a nearly zero-degree helix plus circumferentials. Layup wrapping and winding under continuous tension of the zerodegree helicals is evaluated. All specimens were edge supported, and internal support by honeycomb is compared with no internal support. Instrumentation generally included deflectometer, load monitoring, and triaxial strain gages. (auth)
