The viscosity of desoxynibonucleic acid in a total extract of the thymus was determined to detect the low-molecular fractions of DNA. The ressarch animals were rats irradiated with 200-kv x radiation to 800 r. The specific viscosity was determined at 21.0 deg C at a concentration of 0.2 mg DNA/nul. The results are tabulated and show a degradation of the DNA. The viscosity of the thymus extract showed a significant variation only 4 hr after the irradiation. The mechanism for the degradation was discussed. (J.S.R.)
