SPONTANEOUS AND 14.7 Mev NEUTRON-INDUCED FISSION YIELDS OF URANIUM-238 IN THE RARE EARTH REGION

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron
Levels of fission product activities in secular equilibrium with U/sup 238/ in nonirradiated uranium salts give the general shape of the mass-yield curve for U/sup 238/ spontaneous fission. The equilibrium ratios were measured for a number of fission products in the rare earth region. The results expressed in terms of 10/sup -4/ disintegrations sec/sup -1/ g/sup -1/ of U/sup 23 are: Ce/ sup 141/, 4.9 plus or minus 1.0; Ce/sup 143/, 4.4 plus or minus 0.8; Ce/sup 144/, 4 plus or minus 1; Nd/sup 147, 3.1 plus or minus 0.8; Pm/sup 147/, 3.6 plus or minus 0.9; Pm/sup 149/, 1.6 plus or minus 0.2. A compara tive study was made of the rare earth region of the mass-yield curve for 14.7 Mev neutron-induced fission of U/sup 238/. (auth)
