CRITICAL MAGNETIC SCATTERING OF NEUTRONS IN MAGNETITE

Journal Article · · Phys. and Chem. Solids
The angular distribution of neutrons inelastically scattered from magnetite is analyzed for temperatures in the neighborhood of the Curie temperature. The breakdown of the spin-wave theory in this temperature region is discussed. Values of the parameters characterizing the critical fluctuations are deduced from the experiments and compared with theoretical predictions. Some quantitative aspects of the scattering indicate that kinematical braking of the fluctuations may exist. A tentative value of the diffusion constant LAMBDA /sup 1/ is derived. (auth)
