PION-KAON SCATTERING
A direct pi -K interaction is proposed as being one of the possible processes responsible for K-nucleon interactions. An attempt is made at seeing if the Mandelstam representation, in the simplified and realistic form of Cini and Fubini, will allow determination of such an interaction. A general calculation technique is given for the different partiai waves, and the contribution of a direct pi - pi interaction to the pi -K scattering amplitude is given. Finally, making the hypothesis of an S-wave impontant, an expression is given for the latter in the approximation of the effective range, and the importance of corrections for possible pi crossing is evaluated. The study of P- waves is not included. (tr-auth)
