CORROSION RESISTANCE OF DENSE, IMPERMEABLE SILICON CARBIDE

Journal Article · · Corrosion
Corrosion data are presented for dense, impermeable silicon carbide in various media. Results are given for static corrosion tests in aqueous solutions of acids, alkalies, and salts; in fused salts and molten metals up to 900 deg C; and in gases up to 1000 deg C. The corrosion resistance of the material was found to be good in most acid solutions and poor in strong alkalies. The resistance in fused salts, molten metals and gases varied with the corroding medium. (auth)
