The functional shifts of the normal and vagotomized stomach in chronic peroral administration of radiosodium (5 mu g/kg) against the background of strong (meat) and weak (milk) food stimuli were investigated. In these conditions there was seen a wavelike character of disturbances of the gastric secretion. The markedness of changes towards an inhibition of secretion depended on the use of a strong food stimulus, the number of radiosodium administrations, and the conduction of vagotomy. Individual fluctuations in the content of the gastric juice and its enzymatic activity were also observed. In the majority of dogs at the end of the experiment, after 3-5 administrations of Na/sup 24/ an admixture of blood was seen in the gastric juice. Postmortem investigations revealed punctate-focal hemorrhages in different regions of the stomach; in one dog there was noted a small ulcer on the mucous surface of the miniature stomach. The results testify to the fact that in radiation pathology dystrophy develops in the stomach. Parabiosis, apparently, comprises its basis. The latter is confirmed by the sharply undulating nature of the gastric secretion, its significant inhibition in the administration of a strong food stimulus, as well as in increase of the total dose of radiosodium.
