AN ESTIMATION OF PION NUCLEAR ELASTIC CHARGE EXCHANGE SCATTERING

From Proceedings of the Symposium on Nuclear Spectroscopy, Argonne, III., Mar. 1964. The double elastic charge exchange scattering of pions on nuclei was estimated using an optical model potential. Assuming the impulse approximation, the optical potential was constructed by summing the pi -N scattering amplitude over the nucleons of the nucleus. Only s- and p-wave contributions were considered, but the full isotopic spin independence was included. Preliminary results, which do not include Coulomb effects, are given for the double charge exchange cross sections of Fe, Sn, and Pb at 10, 20, 40, and 65 Mev. (auth)
