NUCLEAR POTENTIAL IN MANY-BODY PROBLEMS

An investigation was made of whether the nuclear potential in the many- body system is the same with that in the two-body system. At first sight it seems thhat the nuclear potentials are different in these two cases because the momenta of mediating mesons are limited due to the Pauli principle in the case of many-body systems. It was concluded, however, that the erergy of a nucleon gas can be calculated correctly by using the T.M.O. potential, which is constrncted under the assumption of the existence of only two nucleons, and that extra many- body forces must not be introduced into the system in addition to the above two- body potential. For simplicity an idealized nucleon gas which interacts with a symmetrical scalar meson field so weakly that the perturbation-theoretic treatment is justified was considered. (auth)
