Prevention of the radiation-induced enhancement of the oxidation rate of graphite

Journal Article · · Transactions of the American Nuclear Society
OSTI ID:4073981
It is known that prior neutron irradiation causes increase in the out-of-pile oxidation rate of graphite. When this graphite is then subjected to alternate reirradiations and low temperature anneals, the enhancement in the oxidation rate is removed. The present study shows that periodic reirraditation and low temperature annealing from the onset can prevent the enhancement in the oxidation rate.
