The blocking of dislocations by alumina particles in the Al/Al/sub 2/O/ sub 3/ alloy was studied. A model is proposed to calculate the activation energy of the unblocking process, under the influence of thermal agitation and applied stress. For low temperatures, the deformation probably proceeds by cross-slip and climb of dislocations in aluminum matrix. (auth)
