DETERMINATION OF BETA RADIOACTIVITY IN WATER BY COPRECIPITATION AND ION EXCHANGE (in German)

Journal Article · · Kernenergie (East Germany)
OSTI ID:4072018

A method for concentrating the content of BETA -active substances in water is described. It consists in combining coprecipitation (iron hydroxide precipitation) with ion exchange. Wofatite resins are used as ion exchangers, the Cl-form for anions and the H-form for cations. The apparatus through which the water specimen is passed is shown in diagrams. A series of test results indicative of the effectiveness of this method for various types of anions and cations is presented. It is recommended for use with large volumes of water. Hard water can be processed too, if the capacity of the resins is increased using finer grain size. Detergents do not improve the efficiency. (OTS)
