New interpretation of resonances in H$sub 2$$sup -$

The two interspersed series of resonances experimentally observed in e- H$sub 2$ scattering at 11--13 eV are identified as $sup 2$$Sigma$/subg/$sup +$ (series I) and $sup 2$$delta$/subg/ (series II), both in the configuration (1s sigma/subg/)(2p $pi$/subu/)$sup 2$. This interpretation leads to a natural explanation that series I is strong while series II is weak in the X $sup 1$$Sigma$/subg/$sup +$ and in the B $sup 1$$Sigma$/subu/$sup +$ channels, and that the two series are equally strong in the c $sup 3$Pi/subu/ channel. Angular distributions for these resonances are computed and compared with experiment. Some old expressions are corrected, and new expressions are given for decay into the c $sup 3$Pi/subu/ channel.
