The problem of determining and combating the effects of radiation on electronic materials and components in a nuclear aircraft is discussed. Transient, permanent, and secondary radiation effects are described and examples given. Methods of radiation damage analysis, the weaklink concept and analog computer simulation, are discussed. An example of system analysis using the weakestlink concept is given. (C.J.G.)
