AN INVESTIGATION OF THE LOW EXCITED 2+ STATES OF Cr$sup 52$ (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4069929
The low excited states of Cr/sup 52/ were investigated by studying the decays of V/sup 52/ and isomeric Mn/sup 52/ in order to determine which energy levels of Cr/sup 52/ are 2/sup +/. The decays were studied by means of a singles and a coincidence gamma scintillation spectrometer. The study revealed the following gamma rays in the decay of V/sup 52/: 1.73 (0.13%), the 1.73 (0.38%), 1.53 (0.92%), 1.43 (100%), 1.33 (0.35%), Mn/sup 52m/. (The energies above are given in Mev and intensities as per cent of the 1.43-Mev transition.) The gamma rays were fitted into their respective decay schemes, which were found to be compatible with one another. With this information it was possible to assign spins and parities of 2+ to the 2.965 and 3.161-Mev levels of Cr/sup 52/. (auth)
