The stability of an amplitude converter with logarithmic characteristics intended for measuring pulse amplitudes from proportional counters is discussed. The use of a high stability discriminator with a low response threshold eliminated the use of an amplifier across the discriminator, and a relative precision of plus or minus (0.4 plus or minus 0.8)% was obtained for amplitude measurements over the ranges investigated. The intrinsic resolution time of the conventer is approximates 20 msec. (tr-auth)
