INTERACTION BETWEEN A PLASMA AND A MICROWAVE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4069546
A method of investigating the interaction between a plasma and a microwave, which is different from those of the other authors, is proposed. The electric field caused by electrons, the ionization, and recombination are taken into account. The displacement amplitude of electron oscillations is assumed to be small as compared with the wavelength. The number, current, and energy densities (as functions of time) are obtained, together with the damping rate and phase-shift of the microwave. The results are almost exact solutions of the assumed basic equations. In a limiting case, the results agree with those of Margenau. This method will be valid also in cases where magnetic fields are taken into account. (auth)
