Stability of a Layer of Plasma Confined by a Rotating Field. Acoustic Model; STABILITE D'UNE COUCHE DE PLASMA CONFINEE PAR UN CHAMP TOURNANT. MODELE ACOUSTIQUE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4069472

The acoustic normal impedances of a haif-plane and of a slab of gas taking into account the viscosity are calculated, using convenient boundary conditions at the second boundary for the slab. The analytical properties of the impedance in the complex frequency plane are investigated. It is then shown that for high enough frequency, assuming no penetration of the rotating magnetic field which confines the plasma, the surface is stable against small perturbations. The influence of thermal conductivity is briefly discussed. The problem of the accelerated plasma is also discussed. (auth)
