THE DETECTION OF RADIOISOTOPES IN URINE. PART II (in German)

Journal Article · · Pharmazie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4068645
A review of methods for identification and separation of radioisotopes is presented. The characterization of radionuclides of a urine sample by desermination of the type and energy of the radiation is discussed. Separation of radioactive cations of urine is reviewed, with particular attention to qualitative separation of isotope mixtures, preparation of the sample for cation separation, and separation of radioactive cations of urine by precipitation of groups. Analysis of the cations in a model sample of urine is tabulated. Great emphasis is placed on the use of paper chromatography of inorganic ions; a general review is given of this topic with emphasis on the separation of radioisotopes. Results are illustrated and R/sub f/ values given for various groups with the following ascending solvents: HCl group (Hg(I), Tl(I), Ag, Pb), 10% NH/sub 4/OAc; reduction group (Te, Se, Au, Tl(III)), EtOH-2N AcOH, 4 : 1 (vol); H/sub 2/S group I (Pb, Cd, Cu, Bi, Hg), tert-BuOH- acetone - H/sub 2/O- acetylacetone HNO/sub 3/, 49:33:10:5:3 (vol); H/sub 2/S group II (Sb, Mo, As, Sn), n-BuOH saturated with 2.16N HCl; urotropine group I (Zr, Ce, Fe), acetone- n- BuOH- HCl(25%), 5 : 5 : 6 (vol); urotropine group II (Cr, V, Be, U), acetone-tent- BuOH- HCl (25%)- acetylacetone, 33: 43: 19: 5 (vol); (NH/sub 4/)2S group (Ni, Mn, Co, Zn), acetone- H/sub 2/O- HCl(36%), 87: 5: 8 (vol); alkaline eanth group (Ba, Sr, Ca), MeOH- HCl(25%) - H/sub 2/O, 8: 1: 1 (vol); alkali metals (K, Rb, Cs, NH/ sub 4/), HCl(36%) - MeOHisobutyl methyl ketone- n-BuOH, 55: 35: 5: 5 (vol). The analytical procedure for these determinations is given. (BBB)
