A study of highly excited states in $sup 8$Be and $sup 10$B has been conducted using the $sup 9$Be(He,$alpha$) and $sup 11$B($sup 3$He,$alpha$) reactions at E($sup 3$He) = 49.3 MeV and the Berkeley magnetic spectrometer. We observe three new states in $sup 8$Be at E/sub x/ = 22.05, 22.63, and 22.98 MeV (+-0.1 MeV) with GAMMA/sub c.m./ < 0.3 MeV. In $sup 10$B we confirm the previously known states $sup 10$B* (10.85, 11.52, 12.56) and report a new state $sup 10$B* (13.49) with GAMMA/sub c.m./ = 0.3 MeV, in addition to two broader states. Comparisons are made with the analog regions in $sup 8$Li and $sup 10$Be. (AIP)
